Now, I have to admit that I am very new to the world of makeup and therefore by no means an expert, but I feel like I have to tell everyone about Illamasqua's Skin Base Foundation. It might not be the best foundation ever, I don't know, because I've never tried anything else, but I feel like this just proves how amazing it is. So far I've tried every brand's lip products, every brand's mascara etc, but despite eying up popular bases like the Nars Sheer Glow, I don't have any real longing to actually go out and pick any up.
Skin Base is a medium coverage foundation that can be applied sheerly or built up to create whichever coverage you prefer. It comes in an incredible eighteen shades, ranging from literally white to olive in a variety of undertones. Illamasqua based the formula on the popular beauty balms readily available on the Asian market, aiming to provide a flawless base with skin-nourishing qualities. It is a little pricey at £32.50 per 30ml, but in my opinion completely worth it. It does not set itself so a powder is necessary, but as my skin is oily I would never skip this step anyway.
I like to sheer mine out using my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for everyday wear, or buff in additional layers using my Illamasqua Highlighter Brush before going over the top with the previously mentioned sponge for more special occasions. I find that no matter how you apply it, Skinbase comes out looking flawless every single time - perfect for flash photography.

I had never been able to find a foundation that matched me properly until I discovered Skin Base, always finding that brands like Benefit and Urban Decay were way too dark, and drugstore heros like Bourjous were way too yellow. However, due to my ever-awkward skintone I do still have to mix two shades, something that the wonderful Jamie from the Glasgow Debenhams branch of Illamasqua assured me is very rare. I mix one part 07 with two parts 01, and find that this is perfect for me. If I want to feel a little more glowy I use a tiny bit more of 07, which is one huge benefit of having two shades to mix (as well as having the last for double the time!).
Illamasqua claims that Skin Base is the ultimate "skin realism" foundation, and I have to say that I am in 100% agreement.
Have you tried Skin Base? What's your favourite foundation?
